Postgraduate/Post Basic Nursing admissions-2011 Applications are invited for the following programmes commencing in May/August 2011 Group J (M.Sc degree in Nursing); Group K (Post Basic B.Sc Nursing); Group L (Fellowships in Nursing); Group M (Post Basic Diploma Programmes in Nursing). Eligibility: M.Sc Degree in Nursing (2 years): Candidate who has completed B.Sc (N)/B.Sc Hons/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks; has undergone a full time (regular stream not distance mode) programme in B.Sc (N)/B.Sc Hons/Post Basic BSc (N) in an institution recognized by Indian Nursing council; has minimum one year of work experience from the date of registration as Nurse and Midwife after B.Sc Nursing or after or prior to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme as on 31st March, 2011 in any institution/hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable for male candidates). These male candidates will not be able to apply for admission to M.Sc (N) - Obstetrics and Gynecological/ Community Health Nursing irrespective of their experience in the area; is medically fit. Post Basic B.Sc nursing (2 years): Candidate who is a Diplomate in Nursing after 12 years of schooling; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/ alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is medically fit. Fellowships in Nursing (1 year) Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice; Fellowship in Hematology Nursing; Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing: Candidate who has completed B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Programme of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai or any other University accepted as equivalent there to; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is a graduate nurse with a minimum of one year work experience as on 15th July, 2011 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community; is medically fit. Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice: This programme is designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced nursing practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. A Family Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with Physician provides primary health care services across the life span in community and ambulatory care settings. The programme is of one year duration and requires full time attendance. Fellowship in Hematology Nursing: This programme is directed towards the preparation of graduate nurses for advanced practice of nursing in Hematology. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence individual and family health outcomes. Hematology nurse practitioner provides health care to hematology patients across the lifespan, primarily in out patient care settings, BMT unit and in the Hematology wards and co-ordinates specialized care with the assistance of hematologists. The programme is of one-year duration and requires full time attendance. Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing: This programme is directed towards the preparation of graduate nurses for advanced practice in Respiratory Nursing. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence the individual and family members. It also enables the students to apply nursing strategies that incorporate the educational, ethical and socio-cultural dimensions of health-illness paradigm to the delivery of health care to patients with respiratory problems. Respiratory Nurse provides health care to patients with a variety of respiratory diseases in outpatient as well as the inpatient setting as an assistant to the pulmonary physicians in doing specialized procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Thorcoscopy etc. The programme is of one year duration and requires full time attendance Post Basic Diploma Programmes (1 year): Candidate who is a Diplomate in Nursing/B.Sc Nursing/ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing graduate; possess permanent registration certificate from the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is a staff nurse with one year work experience as on 15th July, 2011 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community; is medically fit Scholarship: The College of Nursing Alumni scholarship, the TNAI scholarship and the Elizabeth Gillespie scholarship* (Rs 5,000/- per year) are available for the postgraduate and post basic nursing students. The members of the TNAI/Alumni of the College of Nursing can apply to the concerned bodies after selection to the programme.
